If you have been around this site for a while, you know that I love to talk about coordination. In fact, I have an entire post about exactly how our bodies coordinate movement which you can read here if you are interested.
The Oxford definition of coordination is: The ability to use different parts of the body together smoothly and efficiently. In order for our bodies to perform controlled and coordinated movements, multiple systems in our body have to work together.
- Our muscles, tendons and joints must be able to create the actual movement or force.
- Our visual system must gather the information from our environment so we know where the object is we want to pick up or if there are obstacles in our path, etc.
- Our Proprioceptive system must be able to detect where our body is in space as we perform the task.
- And most importantly, we need our cerebellum to take all of this information and put it together.
As you can see, creating coordinated movements is an incredibly complex process that our bodies learn to do with lots and lots of practice. So, today we are going to practice some simple and fun Halloween themed coordination activities. Grab a comfy chair, pull it up to a flat surface, and get practicing!
I hope you had a great time practicing your coordination skills today. If you would like some free Fall and Halloween themed printables, check out my Holiday Freebies. I also have some fun Halloween and Fall Themed Movement Videos:
I hope you guys have a great week! Don’t forget to come back next Saturday for more great videos.
